02.20.08 :: Concerts:: Female Invasion!

On Sunday, February 9th, four bands fronted by women appeared at Anna Banana's at 2440 S. Beretania Street for the Female Invasion concert. These ladies packed the house with a unique mixture of indie, rock, punk and postrock.

The lineup began with She Can Devour, a fairly new-to-the-scene band which, due to an unfortunate lack of batteries, we were unable to get pictures of.

 

They were followed by the Malcognitas, a goth-influenced local rock band who just released their debut album, Love is Fair. Ara Laylo, the lead singer, was backed up by Yvonne Harada on guitar, with Lorenzo Trinidad on bass and Jack Tawil on drums.

After the Malcognitas came Miss Buddha, fronted by charismatic leading lady Erica, with Gary D. on backup vocals and guitar, Raph on bass, and Vanni on drums and back up vocals.

 

Closing the night was Dolls till Daylight, fronted by Veronica Daylight , with Jacob Hair-do on guitar, Michael Camino on bass, and Derek 86 on drums.

 

Local metal band A Hollow Union showed up to support the performers.

 

The show brought out other freelancer photographers to catch the action-- in the foreground is Ryan, in the back is Justin Leong.
