L T J Bukem and MC Conrad
By Will Connor
Labor Day Weekend this year provided us with the semester’s first dance extravaganza at Nextdoor. Drum and Bass pioneer LTJ Bukem joined forces with MC Conrad to bring Honolulu a dubbed out, jungle throw down that will not soon be forgotten!

Kicking off the evening was KTUH’s Metal X followed by the team of Diode and Konception. The opening acts were great warm ups and really got the crowd moving, but the energy changed noticeably when Bukem and Conrad took the stage.

For three hours, Bukem and Conrad had the audience sweating to inventive drum and bass tracks. LTJ Bukem showed his experience by using subtle touches such as knowing when to add an extra drum roll or when to cut out the high end for emphasis as well as in-your-face techniques like beat-mixing two fully contrasting jungle rhythms or cutting the music all together to highlight MC Conrad’s lyrical assaults.
The evening was well thoughtout yet they still presented a free form feel to the night’s entertainment. All in all it was a great evening from start to finish!

Honolulu has more great DJ action to look forward to this semester. Goldie (Metalheadz) will be appearing on September the 8th at Indigo downtown and DJ Krush (Boredoms, Automator) will be causing musical trouble at Fashion 45 in Waikiki on October 2nd.
Two more shows not to be missed!
