Preview: DJ Krush at Fashion 45

This Monday at Fashion 45 in Waikiki, DJ Krush is going to bend some ears and move some feet of the initiated and the unsuspecting! Since his 1994 release of "Strictly Turntablized," Krush has been throwing out the most experimental hip hop tracks heard in Japan, or anywhere else for that matter. I know I came in late—around 1998, when I was visiting Tokyo and I got a chance to check out his latest alsum at the time with a troupe of Nigerian percussionists—but I was hooked! When the Japanese noise punk band Boredoms released their series of remix albums that took live noise music performances and gave them to the most competent DJ's to turn into something completely different, Krush stepped up and tackled "ReBore" volume 0, which I picked the day it came out. I have never been so pleased with a long-anticipated release as I was with this one. Since then, I have been trying to keep up with Krush and all the projects he has cranked out, but the man is simply far too busy and professional! It is a wonderful and worthy long-term project of mine to track down everything he has touched, just to get an idea of all the amazing ways this man thinks and rethinks about music.

If you are curious as to what might happen on Monday night at Fashion 45, your guess is as good as mine. Krush can and will do anything he wants, and that, my friends, is reason enough to go! He will captivate, astound, and groove anyone and everyone that shows up, and you will definitely come out of the experience with a new understanding of what a DJ can and will do.

The show starts at 9pm amd goes to 4am. Tickets are $15 before the night of the event and more at the door.
