2.13.07: Sean Connelly

"And in this moment I can attain success and [I can] fulfill my self-potential as long as I keep my connections to others in mind while I strive for my own goals. I need to return what my community gives me." - Sean Connelly

1.23.07: Brendan Smith

"Old school East coast writing is what got me going in the beginning. Writers like Cope2 and Zephyr had styles I could really embrace. I was really big on European subway bombing as well." - Brendan Smith

11.13.06: Amy Wagner

"I did my first tattoo on my roommate and went from there. Tattooing friends and a bunch of punk kids that wanted free crappy tattoos." - Amy Wagner

11.08.06: Maika'i Tubbs

“I can look at all of my work & not see a single common thread. To sum people, that's not necessarily a good thing. An artist is supposed to have a vision, a focus, some kind of natural thought process. Then there's me. I get bored easily...." -Maika'i Tubbs

10.30.06: Dan Weaver Fashion// CutnSewn

I came to UH hoping to learn all the aspects of creating clothes from start to finish, I guess that’s how I actually fell in to sewing/draping/pattern making, etc.” - Dan Weaver

10.24.06: Chris Bobek

“I’ve noticed that, of my own photos, the ones I tend to like more and feel stronger about are the shots that have a lonely feel to them.” - Chris Bobek

10.19.06:Aaron Van Bokhoven

People crawl out of laundry machines and poke one another with sticks in the irreality of Aaron Van Bokhoven.

10.11.06:Andrew Hem

Andrew Hem is taking on portraits that rarely get the attention they deserve. Lots of masked graffers and old men. The color is adventurous and the subjects are simple.

10.11.06: Cecilia Piemontese

Cecilia Piemontese creates black and white for the most part; her images give off the vibe of stop motion films everywhere. Interesting variations in depth create a shadowbox effect that is rare amongst many artists in the United States that are working on a more graphic idea in their pieces. Without the distraction of color, she makes great images with plenty of character.+MORE>>

10.3.06: Heisuke Kitazawa

Although his answers are terse, Heisuke Kitazawa’s art speaks at great lengths. His images are clean and graphic as PCP, his pseudonym; vibrant scenes of limp female bodies dangling mid air with earphones on and cryptic collages of odd objects strewn across compositions. Every image is a story of a place and a person for just a moment -- perhaps suggesting that this is the only moment in the subject’s life that is interesting enough to portray. Each piece feels like what a drunken Polaroid should really look like -- the eerie truth about a still frame. +MORE>>

10.3.06: Yetzer Hara

Raphael Leray, as Yetzer Hara, creates pen and ink pieces based on cell structures. He is the microscope master. Raphael agreed to do an email interview with me despite the fact that he barely speaks English (French is his language of choice). After correcting his grammar and getting together a few of his black and white pieces, he let me put his interview up. Thank you Mr. Hara. Or Mr. Leray. Or mister molecular biology nerd. +MORE>>

9.25.06: Melissa Contreras

Melissa Contreras works as axelhoney. She is currently showing in Los Angeles, California, but you can find her work almost anywhere. She has designed catalogues and toys, created illustrations and paintings. She says she thinks her art will be everywhere in ten years. It pretty much already is. +MORE>>

9.25.06: Nancie Yang

Nancie Yang may not have the approval of her parents, but she has a sweet way with animalistic subject matter (see:batpeople). She is working out of Pennsylvania and trying to hustle her work via etsy.com. Only 23; Nancie is in love and creating beautiful things. +MORE>>

9.19.06: Corey Smith

Corey Smith could have answered my questions truthfully. Corey Smith could have also made up everything on the fly. The only thing I really know is true about Mr. Smith is that he is a pro snowboarder and an artist. His images are clean and graphic. His message is clear – everything is pretty fucked up, innit? Fan of Banksey? Fan of Corey Smith. Give it a go. +MORE>>

9.19.06: Liz Adams

Liz Adams has done illustrations for Venus Zine, Girlfriends Magazine, Disney and On Our Backs (to name a few). All of this before turning 26. She graduated with a BFA from Arizona State University where she “developed her style as an artist that is whimsical, cute and a little offbeat.” Here is an interview with the artist that brings you paintings of mystical boys in capes on watered down Easter colors and nighttime dinosaur surprises. +MORE>>
